Injection

The contraceptive injection contains the progestogen hormone – a synthetic form of natural progesterone, which is produced in the ovaries.

There are two main types of injection in the UK; Depo-Provera and Sayana Press.

Key facts:

It’s 99% effective at preventing pregnancy with perfect use and 94% effective with typical use
You don’t have to think about contraception for as long as the injection lasts (10-14 weeks)
It’s not affected by other medicines and can be used during breastfeeding

It’s an option if you can’t use oestrogen (which is found in the combined pill, patch and vaginal ring)
It may stop your periods
No STI protection

How to use:

You’ll need to have an injection at our clinic once every 10-14 weeks.
